Geospatial data is the cornerstone of any application, service, and product even remotely related to our physical surroundings. Despite its significance for our Data Economy there is a gap between policy intentions and subsequent industrial uptake. This status quo demands an EU-wide intervention targeted on delivering a Digital Single Market for industrial geospatial data. It will be delivered within the OpertusMundi project.

The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Programme. It has officially started with a two-day kick-off meeting in Athens on January 21-22, 2020. We are excited to be on board with other partners: "Athena" Research and Innovation Center, Technische Universiteit Delft, Fraunhofer IAIS, Geospatial Enabling Technologies, CMG Legal, AZO Anwendungszentrum GmbH, WIGeoGIS GmbH, Georepublic UG and Roleplay.

Kick-off meeting in Athens, January 21-22, 2020

OpertusMundi will deliver a trusted, secure, and highly scalable pan-European industrial geospatial data market, which will act as a single-point for the streamlined and trusted discovery, sharing, trading, payment, and use of proprietary and commercial geospatial data assets. It will aim to guarantee low-cost and flexibility to accommodate the current and emerging needs of Data Economy stakeholders regardless of their size, domain, and expertise.

To the best of our knowledge, OpertusMundi will be the first industrial data platform for geospatial assets, with no existing or planned systems offering a similar level of support for the geospatial value chain. The OpertusMundi platform will be built on existing computing platforms specialized in the scalable, low-cost, and efficient provision of geospatial data assets and services.

The work that will be carried out to achieve the project’s objectives will provide beside the OpetrusMundi Platform also OpertusMundi Data Catalogue, OpertusMundi APIs, OpertusMundi Value Added Services and OpertusMundi Joint Business Venture.
